Now let’s hear from Darla…

SH (Sisterhood Hikes) - When did you start hiking with Sisterhood Hikes?

DD (Darla Dallas) - I have been hiking with Sisterhood Hikes since before the group began! I knew Tamara from church and when she took a group of women hiking I joined in the fun. I just kept going to every hike she hosted, I guess I’m a founding hiker lol. I think my first hike was at Fort Worth Nature Center, which is actually still my favorite local hike.

SH - When did your enjoyment of the outdoors begin?

DD - I grew up camping and exploring the outdoors through Girls Scouts. With the family taking weekend trips to a lake cabin, all summer long my siblings and I would swim and play outside.

SH - What has been your most Challenging hike?

DD - “That had to be Witchita Mountain Wildlife Refuge.” “ The trail leading to the waterfall was ripe with boulders and crevasses to jump over.”

SH - Did you learn anything about yourself on that challenging hike?

DD - Yes, even though my body is aging I can still do difficult hikes. I try to keep up with some weight training, which really paid off when I needed to meet the physical demand of endurance needed for that trail. I also try to think ahead, look up the trail, and be as prepared as I possibly can be for a hike.

SH - What is special about The Sisterhood Solitude time?

DD - Solitude for me personally gives me time to rest my soul. I use the time to pray, listen to wild life. Sometimes I write poems.

SH - What has being a part of Sisterhood Hikes brought to your life? What do you enjoy about leading group hikes?

DD - I really enjoy the ladies I’ve met and continue to meet on our hikes. I like that I am not hiking solo, it takes all the fear of getting “lost” out of the way, lol. I know we will always figure it out together. The group has helped me with hiking skills, and problem solving on the trail. I am now better prepared and enjoy myself, its fun being with a tribe of women, all different but united in the mindset of enjoying nature, hiking and each other. I like leading our hikes, I have found it motivates me to move more outside and connect and build friendships.

SH - What do you most look forward to on group hike day?

DD - I enjoy being with the Sisterhood. When the group I help lead comes to the end of a hike, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. We hit personal goals, plus we did it as a team. It’s great feeling!

SH - Do you have a women as a mentor/role model?

DD - Our Founder, Tamara is my role model. A woman of faith, compassionate, loves her friends and family. She cares about others, and shows wonderful hospitality.

SH - If you could could have coffee with one woman who is no longer living, who would that be and why?

DD - I would choose my grandmother, she would drink black coffee and I would have cream in mine. We would talk about life, love and how much I miss her in my life.

SH - If money and time was no problem and you were told to pick a trip for a hiking adventure…where would you go?

DD - Northern Ireland and Scotland! Oh my goodness, have ya’ll seen those green fields, waterfalls and twisted trees? I so enjoy the beautifulness of it all!!!

SH - Last question, lol…What is one way being a part of Sisterhood Hikes & such changed you as a person?

DD - I am definitely braver when it comes to trying new things!

It’s been fun getting to know Darla better and hearing about her experiences with Sisterhood. If you have not met Darla in person, look for her leading group four at your next Sisterhood Hike!
