FAQs
Do I have to be super fit to hike with Sisterhood?
No, we have women of all fitness levels. There are women who have never hiked before. We also have women who trail run or do marathons. There is a place for all women.
What are the groups 1-4 about?
We hike together on GROUP HIKES, but we are moving along the trail in four groups. All groups have Hike Leaders. These groups are based on individual hiking pace. It is MOST important that you get into the right group on GROUP HIKE day. It is always better to do a slower paced group on your first hike. The only exception to that rule would be IF YOU ARE A RUNNER…runners should always be in Group 1
We often refer to GROUPS 1-4 as, G1, G2, G3 & G4
Group 1 moves fast, this group is made up of runners. This group always hikes six or more on group hike day
GROUP 2 Is the place for more advanced hikers, they move quickly, take very few pictures and are always on the tail of group one. This group always hikes six miles or more miles on group hike day.
GROUP 3 Is our largest group, sometimes we even break into 3A, 3B, & 3C with three Hike leaders. This group always hikes six miles on group hike day. Group 3 moves at a moderate pace, but we are hiking not walking. The front of group 3 moves more quickly than the back.
GROUP 4 moves much slower pace and takes more pictures. This is the group for first time hikers, women with injuries or joint issues. Perfect group for those women who have not done any cardio activity for awhile. We encourage all group 4 hikers to bring hiking poles. Group 4 will always do four miles on Group Hike Day. Sometimes there will be options… some of group 4 may want to do the full six miles. It depends on where we are hiking, how many leaders we have for Group 4 and how many hikers are in attendance. We will explain this at every group hike. In the heat Group 4 will only hike 2.5-3 miles.
What if I can’t make the whole distance of a hike?
All hikers have the choice of ending their hike early. That said, every hiker is responsible for themselves. Leaders will NOT take you back to the trailhead unless you are injured. Please inform someone in your group, preferably someone with a “yellow hat,” that you are returning to the trailhead. Having the ALLTrails App on your cell and downloading the trail is always your best option.
What do I need to do before my first hike?
Every hiker must fill out and sign our waiver one time. Make sure you read all the hike details before the hike you plan to attend.
What should I know before I hike & what do I bring?
Sign wavier, read Hike details. We follow LEAVE NO TRACE policies while hiking…which means, drop nothing. This includes fruit peels or food of any kind. Do not take any plants, rocks etc. from the trail. Do not stack rocks. Do not take shortcuts on the trail or go off trail.
You will need a backpack, two liters of water (best in a hydration bag), a small blanket to sit on if the hike includes a Solitude time. Hiking poles if needed. Wear athletic shoes with a grip on the bottom. Have a copy of your identification and also a index card with your emergency contact name and phone number, place into a baggie in your backpack.
What age are the hikers?
All hikers must be 18+ years
What happens when I arrive at the hike?
The hike details will explain where to meet for each hike. Once you arrive, look for the hiking leaders, they wear yellow hats.
There will be a sign in sheet, often we do raffle drawing and you will receive a ticket when you sign in.
We will give instructions about the hike, these are always important. We will take a group photo and then get into the Groups 1-4. All this takes 15-30 minutes based on how many hikers we have. It is wise to arrive early for parking and using the restroom.
Why do you not allow dogs?
Our monthly group hikes have a large attendance. Adding pets to the group is not feasible for the flow of our hikes.
Can I carry my baby in a pack?
Our monthly group hikes are not for kiddos. These are once a month hikes for women to escape into nature alone with peers. This is an important time of self care for our hikers.
What is Solitude time?
This is a 10-20 minute time of silence. This is something we do on all our large group hikes. Solitude is a refreshing time of peace and stillness. Women use this time to pray, mediate or sit in the moment and rest. EVERYONE SITS during this time, we ask everyone to respect that. This is NOT a time for snacking, texting, ear buds or taking pictures. Please honor this few minutes of quiet and clarity, for many this is the highlight of the hike.
Can I use my phone on the hike?
We ask that your phone be on silent and that you do not take/make phone calls. Only text if absolutely needed. Definitely use your phone to take lots of pictures.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, have them come to the website and sign the waiver here. If it is last minute or they can’t use a computer they will have to sign a yellow wavier when you arrive the hike.
How often are the hikes?
Currently we host a large once a month Sisterhood Hike and a large bi-monthly Coed Hike. You can visit our calendar here on the website or on Facebook to see all upcoming hikes. We have many other hikes throughout the month. Hikes are on both weekdays and weekends. You can find our hikes here on the calendar for upcoming hikes or on the events page of the Facebook group. Please note that the Big group hikes are referred to as SISTERHOOD HIKE or COED HIKE. The smaller throughout the month hikes will all have G1, G2/3, G3, G4 in the hike titled…this is referring to the pace set for this hike group (G) Smaller hikes only have one group leader, therefore the walk/hike is set for a certain paced Group.
Road Trips?
We do road trips at least once a year. Everyone must sign the waiver before the trip. Sometimes we will require a nonrefundable deposit to hold your spot on a trip. If you have paid a deposit and then cannot attend your deposit will be used toward things needed for the trip.
What about the guys?
Sisterhood is having such a great time hiking, road tripping and building deep friendships that we keep hearing the guys want to join us! We aim to host coed hikes bimonthly as well as occasional bro hikes for just the guys. Look for our coed hikes on our sisterhood calendar!
